Favorite Memory: “There are many memories from my 31 years in the classroom. I would say that my favorite would be being able to teach both of my children and to watch them be a part of the FFA Organization.”

Why I Taught Ag: “I chose to become an ag teacher because of the influence of my ag teachers, Lonnie Messer and the late Billy Steelhammer. They made it fun, however we worked hard and in the process learned many skills that I have been able to use personally and professionally. We also learned the importance of community involvement by helping with projects to improve our local area.”

Favorite Memory: “My fourth year of teaching at Tatum, a high school senior was put into my Ag 101 class. He had a troubled past, but I explained to him that he had a fresh start with me. However, from here on his choices would determine what actions others would make. The young man soon became part of the Greenhand Chapter Conducting team that won district and bannered at area. He made a 98 on the quiz. The last day of school I found a car in my box from the young man that said ‘Thanks for believing in me, so I could believe in myself.”

Favorite Memory: “My favorite memory of a career as a teacher of agriculture would have to first of all, as always, be the students. I have had the privilege of having some of the finest individuals; young men, young women, thousands of them over forty-four years, many much smarter than me, but man-o-man were they special.”
